'Will & Grace' Star Eric McCormack Didn't Want To Play Gay, Co-Star ...

"Will & Grace" is often cited as a pioneering sitcom in terms of its portrayal of openly gay characters and relationships. But one of the show's stars wasn't so enthusiastic about tackling a gay role.

In a new interview on Larry King Now, actress Megan Mullally reveals that her co-star Eric McCormack was hesitant to accept the rule of Will Truman, due in part to the character's sexuality, at first.

"Everybody originally passed -- all four of us originally passed on the roles," Mullally notes. "Eric McCormack had been playing a manly cowboy on a series in Canada and didn't want to play gay."

Of course, McCormack -- who ended up nabbing an Emmy for the role -- eventually signed on, alongside Mullally, Sean Hayes and Debra Messing.
