CW President Talks AMAZON, Batman And Adapting Other DC Properties

Speaking at the Television Critics Association today, The CW president Mark Pedowitz talked about the network's planned Wonder Woman pilot, Amazon. Earlier today, we heard comments from him confirming that they have yet to receive a script, and they're currently busy casting Diana. Here, he also discusses any potential conflicts with Warner Bros., since Wonder Woman will inevitably be featured in the studio's Justice League movie, which may be released in 2015. "We worked carefully with Warner Bros. to make sure Warner Bros. theatrical was onboard so we were able to get it done. You want to work carefully with your studio to make sure that it works and that it doesn?t interfere with their projects." Also, it has been speculated that Amazon could crossover with CW's current hit series Arrow, despite that show apparently being too realistic/grounded to feature superpowered beings. Pedowitz had this to say on the possibility. "I think they all could exist in the same world, but whether they do or they don?t is depending on what the showrunner wants to do."

Due to the success of Arrow and Smallville, it shouldn't come as a surprise that more DC Comics properties will likely be developed on The CW. "Arrow?s success, when you have Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg as your showrunners, that has a lot to do with that success and we hope Allan Heinberg will have the same success with what Amazon will be. But it does help, in terms of that," says Pedowitz. "In terms of other DC characters, we will explore other DC characters, but we also do a lot of exploration of a lot of other material with a lot of other great producers."

However, there is at least one famous DC character who definitely won't be appearing on the network anytime soon: Batman. For the past decade, WB and DC wouldn't allow the Caped Crusader to be used on live action television, including a guest appearance on Smallville. Despite Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy being finished, Pedowitz confirms that The CW is still unable to create a Batman show, or even have him appear on Arrow. "At this time, no. And regarding your next question, regarding is Batman going to make a trip to [Arrow?s] Starling City, they?re not in the same state."

Arrow returns on January 16th at 8 PM EST. If any, which DC Comics character would you like to see The CW adapt?
