My game console solution

As I had stated before, I had dumped all my home entertainment system (high end Sony) gaming consoles, games, gear, etc. I had felt they were looking and playing a bit long in the tooth. i felt a clean slate was in order. I play games on my Apple products but those are for desktop fun, hotel, flights, etc. And no, I am no gaming lord or hyper serious player.

So, I checked into getting a PC, and one that was small enough to fit inside my home entertainment credenza. I found a lot of cool PC's but they are a bit pricey for the kind of performance I think they would need (> $1,000). I still am planning on putting a PC in place, but I am going to build it myself. Yeah, I said I've been there done that, but this looks to be fun. I'll build it better, faster, cheaper for less.

Then I checked out the current generation and releases of the major game consoles (Ps3, Wii U, and Xbox) and I settled on the Wii U. It came down to who seemed to have the best bang for the buck at the moment, and who seemed to be taking a risk. Nintendo got my vote.

The console is pretty cool, and the new controllers are very good. However, my gripe with Nintendo is that they are trying to squeeze the nuts for the price point. Total penny pinching. I think they should have done this instead: Put out the basic console for $199 but with no game controller, and with double the RAM, and a faster processor. And USB 3. Include a basic Wii controller, and still be able to play the games.

Then sell the video screen game controller at $99 (like they plan to do this year for use as the second high-end controller for the main console) I think they would have smoked the competition with that approach. But no, they had to squeeze and squeeze to get it to that magic price point.

Still, it is a step forward, and I am enjoying the games and controller. So far, I am liking Mario and Black Ops the best. Assassins Creed is cool too.

The browser is okay, useable. Netflix and Youtube work well. So, overall not a bad investment for a total of $700 with bundle package and some games and some other style controllers. And i can use it as a party gaming as I did with the last one, so that is a bonus.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I am no gamer expert, and I was so out of the loop on all this stuff that the one primary thing that floored me is how slowly they have progressed. It's really comical when you compare that to say, the progression in the same time period of computer servers, laptops, phones, notepads, etc.
